Judith Ann Chapman June 24, 1943–May 6, 2025

Judith Ann Chapman, lovingly known by all as “Grandma Judy,” passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the Anamosa Care Center, following a brief illness. She was 81 years old.

Born on June 24, 1943, in Monticello, Iowa, to Dale and Edna Haas McDonald, Judy grew up with a deep love for family, faith, and caring for others. If you knew her, you loved her, and chances are, she loved you right back like one of her own. Her door was always open, her table always full, and her heart always generous.

Judy graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School with the class of 1961.  She then attended Paris Beauty Academy to become a licensed cosmetologist. She married James Kiburz in 1961. Together, they had three sons, Randy, Scott, and Kevin, and a daughter, Michelle. Judy married Dale Chapman on April 14, 1978, at the Little Brown Church, in Nashua. Together they had a son, Keith.

Judy was an extraordinarily devoted mother and grandmother. Her happiest moments were spent cheering from the sidelines, clapping in the audience, and being a constant presence at the events and milestones of those she loved most. Her support was unwavering, and her hugs legendary.

She had a gift for making people feel seen and cared for, which extended into her longtime work as a talented cosmetologist. Judy shared her skills generously, often volunteering at senior homes and for charitable causes. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she found a cherished spiritual home at Faith Life Church in Marion. Her Bible study group became more like family, dear friends who walked alongside her in life and faith.

Judy was also known for her incredible cooking and warm hospitality; no one ever left her home hungry or without a smile.

She is survived by her four sons, Randy (Angela) Kiburz of Cedar Rapids, Scott (Dawn) Kiburz of Lexington, Neb., Kevin (Melissa) Kiburz of Monticello and Keith (Christina) Chapman of Marion; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; her beloved sibling, Larry (Donna) McDonald, Steve (Carol) McDonald, Phil (Kathy Bone) McDonald, Pat (Doug) Dean, and Carla (Jim) Like.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle; her parents, Dale and Edna; and her two husbands, James Kiburz and Dale Chapman.

Funeral services will be held, 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Faith Life Church, Marion with interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monticello.  Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

She will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, and legacy will live on in all who were lucky enough to know her.
