Junior varsity Panthers finish season

Junior varsity

   Four games wrapped up the season for the Monticello junior varsity boys basketball team.

   The Panthers played at Cascade Jan. 27, and won 46-37 as Alex Jamison scored 21 points. He also had four assists, two rebounds, two steals and a block. Austin Kurt had nine points, three rebounds and two assists. Lincoln Schneiter had six points, seven rebounds and two assists. Welter had six points. Cord Nietert had four points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

   Back home against Maquoketa Jan. 31, Monticello lost 41-32. Schneiter had 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jamison had eight points, five rebounds and three assists. Kurt had five points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Welter had four points, six rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals. Nietert had three points, four rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists.

   On Feb. 3, the Panthers traveled to Goose Lake to take on Northeast, and lost 48-36. Schneiter had 10 points and four rebounds. Wyatt O’Reilly had eight points, four rebounds and two steals. Nietert had eight points and two steals. Jamison had six points. Welter had four points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block. Brennan Bohlken made two assists.

   Monticello closed its season with a 41-34 loss at home against Camanche despite 13 points from Welter, who also had two assists and two steals. Jamison had eight points, three rebounds and two steals. Schneiter had six points and four rebounds. O’Reilly had five points and two rebounds. Kurt had two points, four rebounds and two steals. Nietert had five rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block. Bohlken had two rebounds.

   The Panthers finished 15-4 under head coach Kolby Harms.

 

Eighth-grade team

   Six total games against three opponents made up the Monticello eighth-grade boys basketball team’s recent action.

   The Panthers played host to Camanche Feb. 2, and lost two games. The A team fell 35-28. Scoring for Monticello were Carter Holub with 14 points, Nicholas Schrader with six, Ryker Hein with five and Cruz Sheppard with three.

   The B team lost 9-7. Emmit Rickels scored five points and Alan Arriaga-Rangel added two.

   On Feb. 6, Monticello played host to Northeast of Goose Lake. The A team lost 58-15. Holub scored eight points, followed by Schrader with four, Hein with two and Isaac Kray with one.

   In the B game, Northeast won 34-18. Quinn Thomas had five points for the Panthers; Arriaga-Rangel and Hein had four apiece, Aiden Woodward and Carter Kuehler had two each.

   Monticello then played at Maquoketa Feb. 14, and split two games. The A team won 49-27 as Holub scored 15 points and Schrader added 10. Kray and Sheppard had nine points each, Hein had four and Thomas added two.

   Maquoketa won the B game 16-2. Kuehler had Monticello’s points.

  

Seventh-grade team

   The Monticello seventh-grade boys basketball team won three of six recent games.

   The Panthers split two games at home against Camanche Feb. 2. The A team lost 43-27. Scoring for Monticello were Mason McAtee and Luke Welter with eight points apiece, Brody Spahr with six, Rece Bohlken with three, and Reid Hinrichs with two.

   Brandon Sharlow scored 10 points for Monti in a 16-15 win in the B game. Gavin Hinrichs added four points and Blaine Benter had two.

   On Feb. 6, the Panthers played at Northeast of Goose Lake, and lost two games. The Rebels won the A game 36-23 despite 12 points from Welter. McAtee added six, Spahr had four and Mac Burkle scored one.

   Northeast won the B game 14-2. Cody Banowetz had two points for the Panthers.

   Monticello picked up a pair of wins at Maquoketa Feb. 14. The Panthers won the A game 53-23, with nine different players scoring points: Welter with 10, Tate Smith and Spahr with eight apiece, McAtee with seven, Bohlken with six, Burkle with five, Hinrichs with four, Aiden Mullen with two, and Hinrichs with one.

   The Panthers also won the B game, 13-3. Grant and Hinrichs scored four points apiece, Brevyn Kearney added three, and Brandt Stadtmueller had two.
