Fresh/Soph Volleyball
Opening the new season, the Panther freshmen and sophomore volleyball team dropped a 2-1 match to Center Point-Urbana on Aug. 28.
The Panthers followed up with a 2-0 match win over Easton Valley on Sept. 2, winning sets of 21-15 and 21-14.
On Sept. 4, the fresh/soph squad earned a 2-0 (25-11, 25-12) win over Bellevue.
In a quadrangular at Beckman on Sept. 8, the Panthers went 1-2.
In the first match, Independence took a 2-1 (12-21, 21-18, 11-15) win over Monti. The Panthers bounced back with a 2-0 (21-16, 26-24) sweep of Cascade. The hosting Blazers took a 2-0 (21-8, 21-15) win over the Panthers to end the night.
Against Anamosa on Sept. 11, the Panthers beat the Blue Raiders 25-22 in the opening set, before falling 26-24 and 15-11 to drop the match 2-1.
Playing in the Monticello JV Tournament on Sept. 13, the Panther fresh/soph team went 1-2 on the day.
The opening match was a 2-1 (15-21, 21-15, 12-15) loss to Northeast. Anamosa topped Monti, 2-0, before the Panthers picked up a win via forfeit over Cascade.
Junior Varsity Volleyball
The Panther JV volleyball squad also opened up the season with a 2-1 loss to Center Point-Urbana on Aug. 28.
The Panthers picked up its first win of the season, taking down Easton Valley on Sept. 2. Monti won 2-0, by set scores of 21-10 and 21-10.
The JV team moved to 2-1 on the young season, after a 2-0 (25-14, 25-22) victory over Bellevue on Sept. 4.
Playing in the brand new gym in Anamosa on Sept. 11, the Panthers dropped both sets to the Blue Raiders, 25-18 and 25-18.
Hosting a tournament on Sept. 13, the Panther JV squad went 2-1 with a 2-0 win over Springville (21-16, 21-12) and a 2-0 sweep over North Linn (21-4, 21-11). DeWitt won sets of 21-18 and 21-14 to top the Panthers.
Junior Varsity Football
Opening the season with a matchup against Mount Vernon on Aug. 29, the Panther JV football squad played a 30-minute continuous clock game that was shortened due to rain and incoming storms.
The Mustangs took an 8-6 win after a successful two-point conversion on the last play of the game.
The Panthers bounced back in week two with a 43-14 over Beckman on Sept. 5 in Dyersville.
