Junior varsity team closes season

GIRLS BASKETBALL

   Five dates closed down the season for the Monticello junior varsity girls basketball team.

   Monticello traveled to Dyersville Beckman Jan. 28, and scored 14 points in a loss. Peyton Ries and Mallory McElmeel had seven points apiece.

   The Panthers played a two-quarter game at Cascade Jan. 31, and lost by a score of 38-10. Brynn Schmit scored four points for Monticello. Ries had two points, three steals and two rebound. Emma Kromminga and Claire McElmeel had two points apiece. Mallory McElmeel and Kylee McElmeel had two rebounds each.

   At Northeast of Goose Lake Feb. 7, the Panthers scored 27 points in a victory. Mallory McElmeel and Ries had eight points each, Kromminga added six, Claire McElmeel scored three, and Peytin Schultz had two.

   On Feb. 10, Monticello played host to Maquoketa Valley, and lost 26-22. The game was scheduled for two quarters, but Schultz made a game-tying basket in the closing seconds to send it to overtime. Kromminga led the Panthers in scoring with seven points, and had two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Ries had five points, six rebounds and two steals. Mallory McElmeel had four points, three steals and three assists. Schultz and Schmit each had two points and two rebounds. Kylee McElmeel had two points and two steals.

   Monticello closed its season with a two-quarter home game against Camanche, winning 16-10. Ries had five points, three rebounds and two steals. Schultz had five points. Mallory McElmeel had four points, four steals and two rebounds. Kylee McElmeel had two points. Kromminga had five steals and three rebounds. Schmit had two steals.

   The Panthers finished 8-8 under coach Cory Recker.
