Lions Club plans September blood drive

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor and Monticello community,

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Monticello Lions will be assisting the American Red Cross with the Monticello Blood Drive. The blood drive will be held at the Monticello Berndes Center from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Red Cross collects and distributes about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply. On any given day, 44,000 pints of blood may be required to meet the needs of patients across the United States.

For an appointment, call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit and search sponsor code: Monticello.

Individuals who are at least 17 years of age (16 years with parental permission in Iowa), weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Walk-in donors are always welcome to donate.

Only 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, but less than 10 percent donate annually. Your donation of blood is needed and appreciated.

We hope to see you on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
