Local student honored as ‘Best of the Class’

Maquoketa Valley High School senior McKenna Thompson (center) was honored as a member of the 2023 Best of the Class. Congratulating her are KWWL Sports Director Rick Coleman, News anchors Collin Dorsey and Ron Steele, and Chief Meteorologist Mark Schnackenberg.

   McKenna Thompson from Maquoketa Valley High School was honored as a member of the 2023 Best of the Class. KWWL and the University of Northern Iowa recognized valedictorians or top graduating seniors from across eastern Iowa at a celebration on Saturday, April 29 at the McLeod Center on the UNI campus.

   The students were recorded for a series of promotional announcements that will air on KWWL, and will also be available for viewing at KWWL.com.

   Best of the Class is a joint public service/ community relations effort that encourages academic excellence among high school students by recognizing students who serve as role models in their communities.
