Manternach wins men's club tournament
It’s the third men’s club title that he’s won, but this one took something special.
Playing in the men’s club tournament on June 28-29 at the Monticello Golf Club, Chance Manternach shot a seven under round of 65 to win the tournament by one stroke.
“I knew it was going to take something special to catch Matt (Wennekamp). He’s been playing pretty well this summer,” Manternach said.
Wennekamp was in the lead after the first round, firing a four-under round of 68. Wennekamp finished runner-up after a one-under 71 on day two.
Manternach trailed Wennekamp by five after a one-over 73 put him five shots back.
“The first day, I was out feeling the course,” Manternach commented. “I always have the thought of shooting around par the first day and giving myself a shot for Sunday. I had a rough start, but battled back to shoot 73.”
Manternach said he knew he had something going on day two, after two birdies and an eagle got his round going. Manternach mentioned that a 25-30 foot putt for eagle on hole three and a 10 foot putt on hole 18 were highlights of his round.
“My group made it really easy to just play and not think about the scores. I got to play with Justin Recker, Reid Hall and Conner Keleher, so we were all pretty chill all day,” added Manternach.
A few groups ahead of Wennekamp, Manternach said he had an idea of how Matt was playing.
“I knew what Matt shot on the front nine, and then on the back nine, I knew we were tied and I had one hole to play and he had two. So, I knew I had to birdie the last hole,” Manternach said.
Don Smith shot 76 (39-37) to win the 18-hole portion of the tournament, Dave Welter was runner-up with a 77 (39-38).

Kramer’s win in late June is her second club championship, winning it the first time in 2022.
“It felt pretty good to win it.
