While it’s been about a month since the Monticello Community School District has had to report any COVID cases, Superintendent Brian Jaeger is sharing the stats once again.

As of Friday, May 6, there were two positive cases across the district (staff and students), and seven individuals experiencing COVID-like symptoms.

“These numbers are still very low and they make up less than 1 percent of the staff and students in our school district,” said Jaeger. “We will continue to monitor going forward and I would remind everyone to be cautious about continue to use universal precautions such as hand washing, sneezing into your elbow, not sharing drinks or food, and social distancing when possible.”

Jaeger said with the increase in COVID cases in the district over the last few weeks, he anticipates that number will continue to rise.

“School is done on June 3, which is four weeks away,” he said. “I am confident that we will make it to the end of the school year with minimal COVID issues.”

He urged parents to keep kids at home if they’re experiencing any type of sickness, COVID or no COVID.
