A memory, and an idea to save Stone Bridge
To the editor:
I hope some way is found to save the Stone Bridge. When I was in high school, our class of 1970 had a class trip with Mrs. Taylor to the bridge. My brother Ron filmed it on our Super 8 camera. The film was put on Youtube as Monticello High School Field Trip at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsiGomG-PYY. People might enjoy viewing it.
Hey, I think I figured out how to save the Stone Bridge. During the fight to save the dam, we were told by the powers that be that it would cost $60,000 per year to preserve the dam if it were not destroyed. This was quite surprising as the government agency responsible for the dam had never spent a dime, as far as we could find out, on maintaining it. Well, the dam is still there and I don't think a dime still has been spent maintaining it. So, take the $60,000 a year to have been spent on dam maintenance, since the time it was saved, and use it for the Stone Bridge!
Problem solved.
You're welcome.
