Messerli wins tight football contest

   The competition was intense in Week Six of the Express Football Contest, as no fewer than five contestants missed just a single game.

   So it came down to the tie-breaker (TB), the total score of Monticello’s game Friday night, which was 42. Even there it was close.

   Dave Messerli of Marion earned the victory for the second time in three weeks, picking 40 as his TB score.

   Off by just three points and taking the $5 second prize was Mike Jacobs, whose TB was 45.

   One of our guest pickers, Nick Miller of Ohnward Bank & Trust, missed on the TB by just four points with 38. Also missing one game, and their TB scores, were JoAnn Kehoe of Monticello (35) and Bob Davidshofer of Cascade (21).

   The other guest picker, Jake Thompson of Citizens State Bank, missed two games.

   The contest had 42 entries.
