Middle school teams stay busy

VOLLEYBALL RECAP

Eighth-grade team

     The Monticello eighth-grade volleyball team took on Mid-Prairie in a River Valley Conference matchup Oct. 7.

     The A team lost 13-21, 12-21, 12-15. Hannah Butterworth served 7-for-8. Paige Rickels had three aces and two assists. Ava Zimmerman served 5-for-6 and had two kills. Kennedy Hermsen had three assists.

     In the B match, Monticello lost two of three sets, by scores of 19-21, 13-21, 15-9. Anna Grant served 20-for-20 with 13 aces. Claire McElmeel served 8-for-11 with six aces. Cambryn Lee served 6-for-6 with two aces.

     Monticello lost the C match 21-15, 11-21, 13-15. Zoe Lagunes served 11-for-13 with five aces, and had one kill. Stella Flynn served 7-for-9 with three aces. Samara Olivarez served three aces. Samantha Ruchti had two kills.

 

Seventh-grade team

     Monticello played at Camanche Sept. 23 in an A match only, and lost 18-21, 11-21, 15-10. Greta Cooper had three kills. Emma Kromminga had two assists. Serving aces were Avery Jurgens with four, Kayla Shady and Kromminga with three apiece, Peyton Ries and Addison Norton with two each.

     On Sept. 28, the Panthers played host to Northeast of Goose Lake. Monticello won the A match 21-17, 21-12. Serving multiple aces were Cooper with six, Kromminga and Norton with three each, and Jurgens with two.

     In the B match, the Panthers won 15-7, 15-0. Monti lost the C match 10-15, 15-10, 12-15, 10-12. Serving aces for the B/C teams were Macey Burlage with six, Emee Himes-Luensman with five, Mackie Marlowe, Kadence Etringer and Jessica Kracke with two apiece.

     At North Cedar Sept. 30, Monticello won the A match 21-18, 13-21, 15-11. Ries, Cooper, Norton and Shady each served two aces. The Panthers played a single B set, winning 16-14, and one C set, losing 15-19. Himes-Luensman served six aces, Lindsi Olson served four and Burlage served three.

     Back home against Mid-Prairie Oct. 7, the A team won 22-20, 21-14. Ries and Cooper each had a kill. Cooper served seven aces; Norton and Shady each served five.

     The B team won 21-13, 19-21, 15-13; and the C team won 21-11, 21-14, 15-8. Ace leader in those matches were Stella McDermott with seven, Bailey Brenneman with six, Marissa Speltz and Lena Lippstock with five apiece, and Brynn Schmit, Emma Hardersen, Alayna Tallman and Burlage with three apiece. Kracke had two aces.
