Midland chapter has strong leadership

     Officers in the Midland FFA Chapter participate in a variety of ag-related projects, and many show a desire to continue their ag education after graduation from high school.

     The following are profiles of the chapter officers.

     Name: Cole Fishwild.

     Year in school: Senior.

     Office held: President.

     Parents: Scott and Sarah Fishwild.

     Hometown: Wyoming.

     SAE: Beef Entrepreneurship.

     Activities: Farm Safety, National Convention, Highway Cleanup, Greenhand Fireup, Greenhand Banquet, FFA Fruit Sales, Great Jones County Fair, Iowa State Fair.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: My Beef Entrepreneurship. I have done proficiency the last three years and got third the first year, second last year, and this year I won Beef Entrepreneurship at Districts.

     Future Plans: I plan to attend Kirkwood Community College and major in Ag Production with a focus on crops and beef.

     Name: Sydney Stender.

     Year in School: Senior.

     Office held: Vice President.

     Parents: John and Jennifer Stender.

     Hometown: Baldwin.

     SAE: Agricultural Processing (Sydney’s Sweets), cake decorating and baking business.

     Activities: Ag Issue and Perceptions, We Care Packages, Highway Cleanup, Sub-district Volleyball, Livestock Judging, Experience the Action, Program of Activities, Ronald McDonald House.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Without a doubt, competing at National Convention in the Ag Issues and Perceptions CDE. Not only was competing a complete honor, I was able to meet countless people along this journey, including Sen. Chuck Grassley and Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey. This experience is definitely something I will remember for the rest of my life, and I am so thankful FFA allowed me to have this opportunity.

     Future plans: This fall, I plan to attend Iowa State University to major in Agricultural Communications and minor in Ag Business.

     Name: Calli Markmann.

     Year in school: Junior.

     Office held: Secretary.

     Parents: Kim and Jay Markmann.

     Hometown: Wyoming.

     SAE: Home and Community Development.

     Activities: Polar Plunge, Highway Cleanup, Ronald McDonald House, Ski Trip, National Convention, Night Meetings, FFA Volleyball, We Care Packages, Ag Olympics.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Attending National Convention. It was a great opportunity to experience new things, meet new people and have a fun time.

     Future plans: Not yet decided, but I plan to go to a two- or four-year college.

     Name: Garet McAtee.

     Year in school: Senior.

     Office held: Treasurer.

     Parents: Darwin and Angela McAtee.

     Hometown: Olin.

     SAE: Diversified Agricultural Production-Placement.

     Activities: Highway Cleanup, Trapshoot, Meetings, SAE Tours, Volleyball, Banquets, State and National Conventions, Fruit Sales, Temple Grandin Presentation, ETA, Poultry Judging, Horse Judging, Livestock Judging, Chapter Quiz, Job Interview, Meals from the Heartland, Iowa Youth Institute of the World Food Prize.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: State and National Conventions, and getting my State Degree.

     Future plans: Farming with my brother and father.

     Name: Brett Schoenherr.

     Year in school: Sophomore.

     Office held: Sentinel.

     Parents: Randal and Jennifer Schoenherr.

     Hometown: Canton.

     SAE: Poultry Entrepreneurship and Beef Placement.

     Activities: Farm Safety Day, Highway Cleanup, Greenhand Fireup, Greenhand Banquet, Fruit Sales, FFA Creed at District and State Level, FFA Volleyball, Legislative Symposium, Industry Tour, Great Jones County Fair, Iowa State Fair, 212 Leadership Conference, State Convention.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: Winning Reserve Grand Champion Breeding Bird at the 2016 Iowa State Fair with my silver-spangled Hamburg pullet.

     Future plans: Graduate high school and attend college to major in animal science/ag business.

     Name: Delanie Uppena.

     Year in school: Sophomore.

     Office held: Co-Reporter.

     Parents/guardians: Mary Errthum and Cody Errthum.

     Hometown: Wyoming.

     SAE Project: Equine-Placement.

     FFA Activities: WLC, Bowling, Skiing, Night Meetings, Officer Retreat, and National Convention.

     Most memorable FFA activity or accomplishment: The Washington Leadership Conference; it was so memorable because I met a lot of people and gained a lot of leadership skills.

     Future plans: Undecided at the moment.

     Name: Emma Paulsen.

     Year in school: Junior.

     Office held: Co-Reporter.

     Parents: Deb and Greg Paulsen.

     Hometown: Onslow.

     SAE: Beef Production-Placement.

     Activities: Ski Trip, Making food for Ronald McDonald House, State Livestock Judging, Greenhand Fireup.

     Favorite Memory: Being chosen to go to National Convention. I got to experience new things and meet people from all over the country.

     Future plans: Attend a four-year college in the field of agriculture.
