The Monticello Public Library is hosting a panel of authors/writers, illustrators, and publishers to help explain the process of how stores are made.

“The Making of a Story” will be held on Friday, April 29, at 6 p.m.

     Those on the panel include:

     • Hilary Naab

     • Rick Meyer

     • Doug Monk

     • Charlotte Smith

     • Creighton Randolph

     • KC Wortman

     • Kelli Naylor

     • Tim Fay

The panel is free and open to the public. The event will also be broadcast on Facebook Live via the Monticello library’s Facebook page.

Teen and Adult Services Librarian Molli Hunter said library supporter Heather Hansen has offered to moderate the Facebook Live portion, fielding questions and responses from those watching online.

“It’ll be interactive for both live and online attendees,” Hunter said.

The library wanted to experiment and offer the Facebook Live option for those who cannot attend in-person.

The event starts at 6 p.m. and is expected to last at least an hour and a half, noting the number of people on the panel.

Hunter will moderate the in-person event, having each member of the panel introduce themselves and provide a short biography as well as their background in publishing. Hunter will have prepared prompts and questions for the panel to answer. If time allows, questions from both the in-person and online audience will be answered as well.

“This is not a presentation,” Hunter noted of the time allowed.

Some of the panel will also have copies of their work to sell to the public.

Library Director Michelle Turnis said the library had been approached by some in the publishing world to speak about the process. creating a panel like this of people with various backgrounds will give the full story.

“It’s a way to encourage people to think about writing their own book and to offer a plan of how to go about doing that,” Turnis said.
