Monticello School Board Recognition

Amanda Brenneman

In honor of School Board Recognition Month, The Monticello Express will spotlight a different member of the Monticello Community School District Board of Education each week during the month of May.

This week, get to know Board member Amanda Brenneman.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a nurse practitioner at MercyCare in Marion. I enjoy getting to know my patients and care for the whole person in the family practice setting.

My husband, Josh, and I have been married for 12 beautiful years. We have a 10-year-old daughter, Bailey, who just finished fifth grade and is excited to move into the new middle school building.

I grew up in Maine by the ocean. I love to go back to visit, search for sand dollars, and jump in the cold waves with Bailey. However, Iowa has so much to offer and the people are so kind, we won’t be leaving any time soon.

How many years have you served on the board?

     Half a year.

What is something you’ve learned since you’ve been on the board?

I have learned that so many wonderful people in Monticello have a passion for the students and meeting their needs. The board is a great way to see all that others do for the community and give back in the tiniest way.

What is something that you are excited about for the future of the MCSD?

I am excited to see how being in the new middle school will change the climate of the school system. I am hopeful the students will grow their desire to learn, the teachers will have a renewed passion, and that others will want to move to the Monticello School District because of the way we excel on so many levels.

What advice would you give to our graduating seniors?

Keep on trucking. It is OK if you don’t end up where you thought you were going. Take every “failure” as a way to learn and grow. Don’t let a setback get you down. Look at it as a reset and a chance to improve who you are. As my dad always taught me, “Treat others as you want to be treated.”
