Monticello shines in conference, district speech contests

   Plenty of highlights for Monticello came out of the River Valley Conference and District large group speech contests Jan. 18 and 25, respectively.

   At districts, Monticello qualified seven entries to the state contest. In the conference event, six groups placed, and 12 groups earned Division I ratings.

   Results follow.

 

District meet

   Monticello participated in the District Large Group Contest held at Monticello High School on Saturday, Jan. 25.  The students earned seven “I” ratings and eight “II” ratings.

   The following events received a “I” rating and are advancing on to State contest to be held at Cedar Rapids Washington on Saturday, Feb. 8:

   Readers Theater – Zander Alden, Stella Flynn, Royce Kiburz, Carlos Lagunes-Torres, Brianna Merfeld, Alexis Orth, Karli Schwendinger, Quinn Thomas, Bonnie Tran and Destiny Wall.

   Choral Reading – Cole Bouska, Skylar Christensen, Nessa Clapp, Haley Larrimore, Meredith Parker, Sam Ruchti, Kendall Siebels, Caleb Tubbs, Emersen Verhagen and Ashlyn Warner.

   Radio Broadcasting – Lydia Ahlrichs, Leah Koehler and Kendall Siebels.

   Radio Broadcasting – Brianna Merfeld and Alexis Orth.

   Short Film – Meghan Besler, Macey Burlage, Brynn Schmit, Katherine Stadtmueller and Ashlyn Warner.

   Short Film – Zander Alden, Rylan Bertling, Carlos Lagunes-Torres and Quinn Thomas.

   Group Improv – Lydia Ahlrichs and Leah Koehler.

   The following groups received a “II” rating:

   Radio Broadcasting – Lincoln Schneiter, Caleb Tubbs and Ben Welter.

 

   Musical Theater – Cole Bouska, Stella Flynn, Haley Larrimore, Meredith Parker, Sam Ruchti and Bonnie Tran.

   Group Improv – Skylar Christensen, Nessa Clapp and Emersen Verhagen.

   Ensemble Acting – Royce Kiburz, Lorelei Rieken, Miranda Rieken and Destiny Wall.

   Freshman Readers Theater – Amber Christensen, Jensen Glawatz, Kaiden Herlein, Seth Hubbard, Kei Lee, Skyler Lilly, Brynnlee Love, Adorabella Moore and Paige Pumphrey.

   Freshman Radio Broadcasting – Amber Christensen and Brynnlee Love.

   Freshman Radio Broadcasting – Kaiden Herlein, Seth Hubbard and Adorabella Moore.

Conference meet

   The Monticello Speech team traveled to Mid–Prairie in Wellman on Saturday, Jan. 18 for the River Valley Conference Large Group Contest.

   Six of the groups placed at the event, as follows:

   First place – Group Improv, Lydia Ahlrichs and Leah Koehler.

   First place – Lincoln Schneiter, Caleb Tubbs and Ben Welter, Radio Broadcasting.

   Second place – Short Film, Meghan Besler, Macey Burlage, Brynn Schmit, Katherine Stadtmueller and Ashlyn Warner.

   Second place – Choral Reading, Cole Bouska, Skylar Christensen, Nessa Clapp, Haley Larrimore, Meredith Parker, Sam Ruchti, Kendall Siebels, Caleb Tubbs, Emersen Verhagen and Ashlyn Warner.
