‘Abe Lincoln’ to visit Monticello library, May 11

     The Monticello Public Library is hosting “President Abraham Lincoln” on Tuesday, May 11, at 6 p.m. in the Community Building (next to the library).

     Kevin Wood, portraying President Lincoln, will speak about the history of the United States during his time, from his childhood on the frontier to the 12 turbulent years from 1854-65, which nearly destroyed the nation, but instead resulted in a “new birth of freedom.”

     Face masks are recommended per Jones County Public Health.


JRMC bike helmet giveaway, May 12

     In an effort in increase bicycle safety awareness, UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) will host a bike helmet giveaway on Wednesday, May 12, from 4 to 6 p.m.

     An appointment must be made for the helmet fitting to maintain social distancing. For more information, or to reserve your child’s spot, please contact Kayla Kurt at 319-481-6327 or email

     Please enter the JRMC parking lot for your appointment at the west entrance next to the Anamosa Ambulance garage and wait in your car until instructed by staff. Masks are required for this event.


Secretary Pate to speak at Rotary Club, May 10

     The Monticello Rotary Club announces that Secretary of State Paul Pate will be the featured speaker at their Monday, May 10, meeting at Pizza Ranch at noon. The meeting is open to the public.

     Pate is commissioner of elections and supervises Iowa’s 99 county auditors in the administration of Iowa’s election laws and administrative rules. 

     Pate is now in his third term. The officeholder if elected every four years.
