O’Reilly Auto Parts Car Show comes to Monticello, Feb. 22-23

     Once again a winter tradition brings family fun to Iowa in the form of KCRG-TV9 Presents the O’Reilly Auto Parts Rod & Custom Car Show, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22 and 23. The affordable family fun event is now in its 56th year celebrating a variety of vintage street rods, custom cars, street machines, hot pickups, race cars, and custom motorcycles.

   This year’s show also features Iowa’s record-breaking Paris Paralympic Gold Medalist Matt Stutzman, he “Armless Archer” from Fairfield, Iowa. Stutzman, who has been to four Paralympics, will let attendees see his gold medal. He also will display his specially outfitted drag racing car and will be available for autographs, photos, and conversation on Saturday, Feb. 22, from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

   The event will be held at the Monticello Berndes Center, 766 N. Maple St.

   Peoples’ Choice Awards will include: Car/Pickup, Motorcycle, and Model Car. Once again, exhibitors have the opportunity to win trophies from McAllister Electrical Services and cash awards from Citizens State Bank. Attendees participate in awarding of prizes and receive official voting ballots at the door.

   Added attractions:

   • 3-D Sound Company DJ Dave Palmer will provide music and commentary and serve as awards emcee on Sunday

   • Popular caricature artist David Fliss, of Flissart Entertainment, will provide free caricatures for attendees

   • “Papa Balloon” artist Mark Garvey again will entertain with free balloon creations

   For food, the Monticello Eagles Club Ladies Auxiliary #4466 will be providing food and beverages for purchase. Profits will benefit various community projects.

   There will be door prize drawings for gift cards compliments of O’Reilly Auto Parts, McAllister Electrical Services, and Citizens State Bank.

   Attendees can test their skill on a Sprint Car Simulator from Knoxville Raceway.

   An impressive selection of scale model cars will compete in four categories for trophies and model car kits in the 40th Annual Model Car Contest.

   Special souvenir items including posters and T-shirts will be available for purchase.

   Show hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Saturday night is also “Date Night” with ladies admitted free between 6 to 10 p.m. The awards presentation is set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

   Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for children. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Get $1 off by bringing a can of food to benefit the Monticello Food Pantry.
