Onslow Coffee Group benefits the city
For residents and business owners,
Oh yes! The Onslow city still has its coffee group!
This coffee group serves the same purpose as other groups do in other cities and towns that have them. It’s the way of starting OUR DAY! The meeting of friends can be a positive item for many of us who may or may not see and visit anyone else that day.
The time is used by attendees to do business in town. From not only enjoying time with friends and neighbors, decisions are what to go to.
• City – voting building.
• The Post Office – to receive or send.
• The Telephone Company – to pay a bill or get information.
• Hair Shop – very important for the ladies to get that done.
• The Bank – to take care of money projects.
• Two trucking companies.
• A Café – serves meals, does parties, also a place for Ladies Card Clubs. Does catering. Has good food.
• “Anything Country” makes things out of wood.
• The Onslow Fire Department.
• The City Building – Garages, etc.
• And Onslow City Hall – City Hall and drop box for water, sewage bills to be paid.
• Also the Onslow Community Building to be used for community functions.
• The City Park – Has all new playground equipment, basketball courts, baseball field/bleachers with grade school competition in the Spring, food stand, volleyball court (new this fall), horseshoe pits (new this fall), and covered shelter with tables that can be reserved for family picnics for a small fee.
All of the these facilities are within one block walking distance for the City Community Room.
The businesses of Onslow would be affected if it were not for the Coffee Group out doing business with them because of the inability to walk to them. However, I made a study of the seniors. Of 31 listed:
• Only two didn’t drive.
• 29 were able to drive.
• 29 also were homeowners.
• 29 paid property taxes, also electric, telephone, TV, gas, and sewer.
Volunteers do it all. From making the coffee, serving to those who need assistance, doing the washing of cups, silverware, kitchen, tables, and cleaning the interior of the room, sweeping the entrances, snow removal when needed, collecting the money and depositing it in the Onslow Account at the bank, purchasing the coffee, sugar, creamer, paper plates, etc.
The entrances and the bathroom are ADA acceptable for those who need it.
There is not an age limit – everyone is welcome.
We also have about six who are from Wyoming and Center Junction.
