Recker awarded heifers through JCC program

   The Bred Heifer Program, sponsored each year by the Jones County Cattlemen (JCC), continued this month with the awarding of three Angus bred heifers to Halle Recker of Hopkinton.

   The heifers, awarded on Jan. 8, were provided by Kurt Family Farms owners Jason and Lisa Kurt of Cascade.

   To promote beef production, the Jones County Cattlemen provide three bred heifers to a deserving youth. Qualified applications from young producers looking to start or expand a herd of their own are submitted in October.

   High school seniors looking to continue their education are also encouraged to contact their counselors for JCC scholarship applications, which are due March 1.
