Al Lubben Memorial Scholarships, a “Let’s Make a Deal” offshoot game, and the annual auction were all part of a scaled-back Jones County Beef Banquet Saturday, March 20 at the Berndes Center in Monticello.

Receiving Al Lubben Memorial Scholarship Awards at the banquet were Emily Trumm, $1,000; DeLainy Fellinger, $500; Hope Saroka, $250; and Grace Lubben, $250.

Lubben also spoke about her participation in the Jones County Cattlemen Heifer Program, having started her own herd thanks to a JCC donation of three bred heifers.

A new idea was used for the entertainment this year. Four coolers full of beef and other goods were brought to the stage, and randomly-drawn participants got to choose whether to take one of the coolers or an envelope of beef certificates.

The Jones County Cattlemen also held their annual live auction, featuring 23 auction items, with Ivan Kurt serving as auctioneer. Brian Lubben of the Cattlemen provided the invocation. A silent auction and door prize drawings were conducted as well.

Andy Petersen of WMT Radio served as Master of ceremonies.

The number of guests was limited to about half of normal capacity due to COVID-19 safety precautions.
