Several Eagles reach State

Girls track

Midland qualified for the state meet in five events, and scored 42 points to finish in ninth place at the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet May 10 in Central City.

The following Eagle entries will get to compete in the state meet May 16-18 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines: Drew Jensen, 400-meter dash; Emma Dusanek, 100; the sprint medley relay team of Ella Rupp, Ari Hacke, Dusanek and Jensen; the distance medley team of Rupp, Taylor Bahnsen, Dusanek and Kayla Folkers; and the 4x400 team of Dusanek, Rupp, Hacke and Jensen.

“It was a good day for the Lady Eagles,” Midland coach Ryan Luensman said. “This has been a great group to work with throughout the year, and the results are proof of their hard work and efforts.

“These girls have been there before, so hopefully they relax, have fun and run to the level I know they are capable of.”

Jensen was the lone champion for Midland, and is now a four-time district champion in the 400. Dusanek qualified in four events, and Folkers had a strong anchor leg in the distance medley, the coach said.

“We have been making some adjustments in our 4x400 and sprint medley handoffs, but we definitely like the direction we are going.

“Ella Rupp, Ari Hacke and Taylor Bahnsen had great races throughout the day. Their consistency has been a huge part of our relay success.”

Boys track

Luke Lasack will return to the state meet May 16-18 in Des Moines, as a result of his finishes in the shot put and discus at the state qualifying meet May 10 in Central City.

Lasack won the shot put with a throw of 48-foot-10, and won the discus with a distance of 133-10.

He finished ninth in both events at last year’s state meet.

Lasack accounted for 16 of the team’s 20 points at the meet. The other four came from Ethan Milder in the 400-meter hurdles (sixth), Connor Martin in the 400 (eighth), and the 4x100 relay of Milder, Martin, Jon Thomsen and Kole Michaud (eighth).
