Sheriff’s Report

     A car versus deer accident took place on Oct. 5 at 1:01 a.m. on Highway 151. Brittany Ann Martin, 22, of Anamosa was driving a 2012 Chevy Malibu when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Martin’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Oct. 4 at 6:55 a.m. on Highway 38. Patricia Ann Carey, 54, of Onslow was driving a 2013 Chevy Traverse when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Carey’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

     A single-vehicle accident took place on Oct. 3 at 1:54 p.m. on Wyoming Avenue. Kylee Jo Schmalfeldt, 29, of Monmouth was driving a 2004 Chevy Silverado K1500 when her unrestrained dog got between her feet. Schmalfeldt lost control of her vehicle, leaving the roadway to the east, striking a stop sign and speed limit sign at the intersection of Highway 137 and Wyoming Avenue. Her vehicle then entered the ditch and struck a tree. No injuries were reported. Schmalfeldt vehicle sustained an estimated $2,000 in damages. There was $250 is damages to the signs, owned by the City of Onslow. Schmalfeldt was also cited for driving while license suspended.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Oct. 2 at 11:13 p.m. on 70th Street. Julie Ann Ulrich, 54, of Olin was driving a 2020 Dodge Durango when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Ulrich’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on Oct. 1 at 9:53 a.m. on County Road X-40. Christine Renee Hinz, 65, of Cedar Rapids was driving a 2011 Dodge Caravan north on Highway 151. Shirley Elaine Amos, 80, of Waterloo was driving a 2011 Chevy Cruze as she attempted to turn left from 151 onto X-40. Amos struck Hinz after failing to yield. Amos reported no injuries. Hinz was checked out on scene on EMS for possible injuries. Amos’ vehicle sustained $10,000 in damages, while Hinz’s vehicle took on $9,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. on Highway 38. James Daniel Eichhorn, 74, of Wyoming was driving a 2013 Toyota 4Runner SR5 when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Eichhorn’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Sept. 25 at 6:55 a.m. on County Road X-40. Sara Marie Lentfer, 42, of Mechanicsville was driving a 2018 Nissan Rogue when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Lentfer’s vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

     A single-vehicle accident took place on Sept. 21 at 6:37 p.m. on River Road. Aaron William Power, 22, of Monticello was driving a 2012 Mazda MZ6 when he started speeding and his vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle entered the ditch and struck a tree. No damages were reported. Power’s vehicle sustained approximately $13,000 in damages. He was also cited for OWI 2nd offense.

     A single-vehicle accident took place on Sept. 18 at 2:05 a.m. on 80th Street. Shelley Renee Bieber, 45, of Anamosa was driving a 2012 GMC Sierra K1500 SL when her vehicle left the roadway and entered a ditch. No injuries were reported. Bieber’s vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Sept. 17 at 5:37 a.m. on County Road E-45. Devin Andrew French, 28, of Olin was driving a 2019 RAM 150 when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to French’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500.

     A car versus deer accident took place on Sept. 17 at 3:03 a.m. on County Road X-40. Karsyn Ann Hurt, 20, of Anamosa was driving a 2011 Jeep Wrangler when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Hurt’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500.
