Sheriff’s Report

     A single-vehicle accident took place on April 16 at 4:03 p.m. on County Home Road E-23. Trista Sue DeShaw, 18, of Anamosa was driving a 2009 Ford Focus SES traveling west when she looked down at her cell phone after receiving a notification. When she refocused back to the roadway, DeShaw was headed into the north ditch. She overcorrected her vehicle, which caused her to lose control. Her vehicle rolled onto its side. No injuries were reported. Damage to DeShaw’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

     A car versus deer accident took place on April 16 at 1:49 a.m. on Highway 151. Mark Franklin Kring, 62, of Lapeer, Mich., was driving a 2020 Volvo semi/tractor and trailer when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Kring’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000, with unknown damage to the cargo.

     A two-vehicle accident took place on April 14 at 9:18 p.m. on Highway 151. Gage Douglas Sharp, 18, of Monticello was driving a 2015 Ford Taurus Limited when he saw a deer on the side of the road. Sharp hit is brakes when he thought the deer was going to run across the road. Dean Porter Pepmeyer, 19, of Anamosa was driving a 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT behind Sharp. As Sharp hit his brakes, Pepmeyer rear-ended him. Neither driver was injured. Sharp’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,500 in damages. Pepmeyer’s vehicle sustained $1,000 in damages.

     A car versus deer accident took place on April 8 at 10:27 p.m. on County Road E-45. Ivy Amber Burnell, 21, of Oxford Junction, was driving a 2004 Chevy Impala when she encountered a deer in the roadway. She attempted to avoid hitting the deer and entered the ditch. Burnell’s vehicle rolled and came to rest on its top. No injuries were reported. Damage to Burnell’s vehicle was estimated at $10,000. There was also $200 in damages to road signs owned by the Jones County Engineer’s Office.

     A car versus deer accident took place on April 8 at 8:11 p.m. on Highway 64. Brady Michael Bormann, 22, of Bettendorf, was driving a 2020 RAM 1500 Rebel when he encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Bormann’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

     A car versus deer accident took place on April 11 at 11:25 p.m. on County Road E-17. Mara Ann Mescher, 24, of Hiawatha, was driving a 2013 Ford Edge SE AWD when she encountered a deer in the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to Mescher’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500.
