TILT helps guide families with kids who face challenges

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

Have you ever heard of an organization called TILT? I hadn’t until a young lady in our neighborhood made me aware of it. Lindsay Ryan has a special place in her heart for kids that face challenges in their lives due to being, as she puts it, “wired” differently.

In addition to being a full-time mom and an elementary teacher in our school district, she has found the time to organize and lead an effort to increase awareness of the challenges faced by these families to provide information and support aimed at normalizing family situations.

She held her first meeting this past Tuesday evening. I attended that meeting as a gesture of support and to gain information that I might use to promote her cause. I have considerable experience as an instructor and a briefer and I have never seen a presentation better organized or more professionally delivered. She has obviously done a great deal of research and has arranged for outside resource persons to address each meeting of the group. In addition, a portion of each meeting will be devoted to a discussion during which parents can share concerns, experiences, and information that may be helpful to others. (Sharing is on a voluntary basis. There is no obligation to contribute.)

I have often heard the expression: “Were it not for volunteers, nothing would get done.” While that may or may not be accurate, Lindsay Ryan is a prime example of why that comment exists. I encourage anyone who could possibly benefit from her efforts to attend the TILT meetings every Tuesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church.

Blessings to all that guide and support those special young people placed in your care.
