Tree Board seeks public input on tree orders

The Monticello Tree Board is asking city residents of Monticello to assist in a project.
There are several species of trees the Tree Board is considering purchasing to be sold to residents looking to replace or plant new trees:
• Horse Chestnut (Aesculus spp.), 50 feet tall, 40-foot spread
• River Birch (Betula nigra), 45 feet tall, 30-foot spread
• Hornbeam (Carpinus betula fastigiata), 40 feet tall, 30-foot spread
• Redbud (Cercis canadiensis), 25 feet tall, 25-foot spread
• Beech (Fagus slyvaticus), 25 feet tall, 20-foot spread
• Blackgum (Nyssa silvatica), 50 feet tall, 30-foot spread
• Pin Oak (Quercus palustris), 60 feet tall, 40-foot spread
• Juniper (Juniperus virginiana), 50 feet tall, 20-foot spread
• Hawthorn (Crategus spp.), 20 feet tall, 20-foot spread
The Tree Board asks that residents rank their top three tree choices. Tree orders will be based on responses. Trees must be planted within city limits, and will cost between $30 and $40 a piece.
Tree surveys can be returned to and filled out at City Hall during business hours. Return your survey by Monday, March 2. Provide your name, address, phone number, and e-mail.
