Wennekamp wins in tight city finish

   There was a trend to the Monticello City Men’s Golf Tournament, held July 27-28 at the Monticello Golf Club: ultra-close score totals.

   Mike Wennekamp emerged the victor on Sunday, shooting 68-73–141 to win the title by one stroke over last year’s champion, Seth Ballou (70-72–142).

   Chance Manternach shot 143; Aaron Prull and Dustin Hall each had 144. So the top five players were separated by just four strokes.

   It was the fourth city (formerly called club) championship for Wennekamp, won last won it in 2019.

   Things were even tighter in the 18-hole tournament that accompanied the main event. Noah Webber, Mark Bub, Leo Cook and Cody Menster each shot 80. Thanks to the cardback rule, Webber came away as champion, followed by Bub and Cook.
