Jones Co. could eliminate case management

     One of the state’s biggest MCOs (managed care organization) has backed out.

     During the Nov. 7 Jones County Board of Supervisors meeting, Community Services Coordinator Lucia Herman informed the board of the future of managed care.

Alliant Energy helps households stay warm

     During the last heating season, more than 7,500 Iowa and Wisconsin households received help with their energy costs thanks to shareholders, customers, employees, and retires of Alliant Energy.

     The shareholders are again contributing $2 million to the Hometown Care Energy Fund, which helps income-eligible customers across Alliant’s service area with heating costs.

     During the last heating season, Alliant Energy employees, retires and customers contributed an additional $210,000.

City elections held in Jones Co.

     City Elections were held in Jones County on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

     Monticello races for mayor and three city council seats were all unopposed. (Bill Meyer, who was listed on the ballot opposing incumbent Johnny Russ for Ward 2 dropped out of the running due to medical reasons.)

     Monticello averaged a 6.4 voter turnout. For Wards 1 and 2, there were 82 total voters on Election Day, with 1,321 registered voters in both wards. For Wards 3 and 4 there 81 total voters, with 1,233 registered voters in both wards.

JRMC honored with generous donation

     UnityPoint Health – Jones Regional Medical Center (JRMC) received a $200,000 donation from an anonymous couple recently. JRMC Foundation received the donation for the endowment fund at the Jones County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Greater Dubuque Community Foundation. This philanthropic couple gave to JRMC because they value local healthcare and shared that it’s important how the staff really care about patients and it shows every time they are at the hospital.

     According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 16 percent of Iowa’s population is over 65. And according to data from the Pew Research Center, population projections predict by 2030, when all Baby Boomers will have turned 65, about 18 percent of the nation’s population will be at least that age. As individuals age it’s important to respond to the needs of this growing population – especially in the area of health care.

Sheriff deputy, K-9 involved in accident

     On Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 6:56 a.m. Jones County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Denniston was involved in a near-head-on collision on Highway 64 about three-quarters of a mile west of the City of Wyoming.

Toys, clothes sale helps local families at Christmas

     The Jones County CPPC (Community Partnerships for Protecting Children) and Jones County Family Council are working together yet again this year to host their fifth annual Kids Toys & Clothes Sale.

     The event will be held on Friday, Dec. 1 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Anamosa Middle School.

Engineer backs out of Stone Bridge work

     During the Oct. 31 Jones County Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Joe Oswald reported on the recent work at Stone Bridge near Monticello.

     Rogers Concrete was out early last week to replace the concrete where it washed out on the bridge. However, Oswald said the rest of the project is on hold due to the engineer resigning from the project.

     VJ Engineering was hired to oversee the project into the winter, consisting of pouring curbing along the sides of the bridge to keep water from running off, ultimately known to cause the stone façade to fall off as well.

N. Chestnut St. property sold, new ambulance director hired

     It’s official.

     The City of Monticello approved the sale of property and the Property Sale Agreement related to 224 N. Chestnut St. to Norm Zimmerman.

     The city council held a public hearing during their Nov. 6 meeting. No comments were received before or at the meeting.

County previews five-year road program

     In preparation for the 2017 Five-Year Road Construction Program, County Engineer Derek Snead and the Jones County Supervisors discussed a timeframe for approving the program.

     Typically, Snead presented the timeline for road and bridge projects to the board and the public during a meeting in December, ahead of budget season. This year’s meeting was set for Tuesday, Dec. 19 in the evening.

     “I’m starting to put together the notice and template for the program,” advised Snead. “The program changes year to year.”
